Russian Ambassador Inaugurates Russian Language Classrooms at Punjab University

LAHORE: Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorev, inaugurated newly renovated and upgraded classrooms dedicated to teaching and promoting the Russian language at Punjab University in Lahore on Wednesday. Welcoming the ambassador, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood expressed gratitude for the collaboration.

Accompanying the Russian ambassador were the Head of the Russian House in Pakistan, Ruslan M. Prokhorov, and other delegates. Principal of Oriental College Prof. Dr. Nabila Rehman, Director of the Institute of Languages and Linguistics Dr. Hafiz Muqit, Assistant Professor of Russian Language Dr. Ekaterina Gavrishchuk, and other faculty members were also present on this occasion.

Funded by the Federal Agency of the Russian Federation under the ‘Rossotrudnichestvo’ project, the classrooms underwent significant modernization as part of an international humanitarian program aimed at enhancing Russian language education worldwide.

Ambassador Khorev highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Russia and Pakistan, emphasizing the recent milestone of the Pakistan-Russia trade volume surpassing $1 billion for the first time. He underscored the importance of fostering cooperation between institutions from both countries, with Lahore and Punjab University playing pivotal roles.

Moreover, he mentioned the establishment of Russian language centers in Karachi and Sargodha, expressing support for promoting comparative analysis of Pakistani and Russian literature and cultural exchanges.

Dr. Khalid Mehmood, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed his commitment to enhancing academic ties with Russian universities. He cited recent visits by Punjab University teachers and students to the People’s Friendship University in Moscow and pledged continued cooperation to strengthen relations with Russia across various domains.
