SEOUL: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has announced that they would establish a new ministry to address the nation’s low birth rate.
On the second anniversary of his presidency, the President addressed the nation and asked for the opposition’s support and help in parliament to approve the law to set up the new ministry.
Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency cited Yoon as saying that they will fully mobilize all of the state’s capabilities to address the current issue.
Policymakers in the South Korea are concerned over the country’s steady population drop, with the birth rate reaching a low of 0.72 last year. The Korean Peninsula Population Institute stated that for the Future, the East Asian nation’s economically active population could drop by about 10 million by 2044.
