Saudi Arabia’s Commitment to Enhance Human Rights Highlighted

GENEVA: Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission (HRC) President Hala Al-Tuwaijri highlighted unwavering dedication of the Kingdom to promote human rights as a means to ensure global security and peace, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.

Al-Tuwaijri made the comments while attending the high-level event held in Geneva to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Several voluntary global human-rights pledges were made on the occasion.

Saudi Arabia vowed to continue its efforts to promote human rights by aligning national lawmaking and practices with global human-rights standards, steered by the Kingdom’s principles and values.

Furthermore, the Kingdom underscored its commitment to leveraging its international position and influence to contribute to the settlement of regional and global conflicts. In addition, Saudi Arabia pledged to maintain international cooperation and solidarity in upholding the pillars of the United Nations, including human rights, peace and security and development.

Al-Tuwaijri underlined the significance of the event, terming it as a valuable opportunity to assess progress made in human rights over the past 75 years.

She went on to say the event helps in drawing lessons and charting a course for the future of human rights through productive dialogue and respect for international cultural diversity, which is an important complement to the pursuit of human rights.
