CAIRO: A second vessel carrying aid to war-torn Gaza set sail from Cyprus on Saturday, more than two weeks after the last shipment arrived by sea, AFP reported.

The ship loaded with aid for Gaza departed from the port of Larnaca in Cyprus. The shipment, organized by two charities—the World Central Kitchen and the Spanish Open Arms—aims to deliver nearly 400 tons of essential supplies to Gaza.

Following diplomatic efforts by Cyprus to establish a maritime corridor to Gaza, the barge, accompanied by two salvage vessels, set sail from Larnaca. The aid flotilla’s departure comes more than two weeks after the last shipment reached Gaza by sea.

According to reports from the state-funded Cyprus News Agency, the journey to Gaza is estimated to take approximately 65 hours. The aid cargo includes staples such as rice, pasta, flour, legumes, canned vegetables, and proteins, provided by World Central Kitchen.

The United Arab Emirates contributed a special cargo of dates, traditionally consumed to break the daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

Efforts to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza have gained momentum, with a makeshift dock constructed to facilitate the unloading of supplies upon arrival. The aid shipment is expected to provide much-needed relief to Gaza’s population, which has been under siege by Israeli forces since last October.
