PESHAWAR: The relentless rainfall in upper Swat and nearby Shangla district has brought routine life to a standstill, compelling both tourists and residents to remain confined to their hotels and homes, local media reported on Saturday.

In addition to popular tourist destinations like Kalam and Malam Jabba, the heavy downpour has also disrupted daily life in Bahrain, Madain, Gabin Jabba, Miandam, Matiltan, Utror, Gabral, Matiltan, Mahodand, and Loye Sar. Tourists, seeking refuge from the incessant rain, have opted to stay indoors in hotels across these areas.

Flash floods in water streams and canals have led to the inundation of low-lying areas, prompting residents to undertake efforts to pump out water themselves. The intense rainfall has also caused damage to standing wheat crops and orchards in upper Swat, leading farmers to call upon the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for compensation.

Moreover, reports of landslides on the link roads connecting Kalam-Mingora Road have further compounded the situation, disrupting the flow of traffic in the region.
