Turkmenistan Ambassador and Pakistani Commerce Minister Discuss Trade Collaboration

ISLAMABAD: Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Atajan Movlamov, extended congratulations to Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, on his recent appointment. The meeting served as a platform to discuss avenues for enhancing trade relations between the two nations.

Minister Jam Kamal reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering robust bilateral relations with Turkmenistan, with a particular emphasis on bolstering trade for the mutual benefit of both countries. The discussions underscored the importance of cooperation grounded in principles of mutual respect and equality, aiming to explore new avenues for collaboration.

Key points of discussion included the exploration of opportunities to increase trade volumes, with a specific focus on identifying new routes and transit trade agreements. Ambassador Movlamov highlighted Turkmenistan’s potential to provide cost-effective electricity, presenting an attractive option compared to local production in Pakistan. Additionally, both parties recognized the potential for collaboration in energy sectors such as LPG and electricity.

Minister Jam Kamal expressed optimism regarding the imminent signing of a Transit Trade Agreement (TTA) between the two countries, which is in its final stage of negotiation. The agreement, anticipated to be signed either in Islamabad or Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, holds significant promise for facilitating smoother trade relations.

Acknowledging the importance of bilateral exchanges, both officials emphasized the necessity of exchanging delegations to facilitate effective coordination and expedite the finalization of the TTA. The shared goal is to accelerate trade activities between Turkmenistan and Pakistan, further solidifying their economic partnership.
