Twenty Cambodian Soldiers Killed in Ammunition Explosion

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian’s Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Saturday that twenty soldiers lost their lives in an explosion of ammunition at an army base in the western part of the country.

The blast, which also left several soldiers injured, occurred in the afternoon at the army base located in Kampong Speu province, as per a statement shared by Hun Manet on Facebook.

“I am deeply shocked to receive the news of the ammunition explosion incident,” Hun Manet said, expressing his “deepest condolences” to the families of those killed.

Although details regarding the incident were not provided, Hun Manet expressed his profound shock and extended his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.

The cause of the explosion remains unclear. Social media posts depicted a demolished one-story building engulfed in smoke, while residents from a nearby village shared images of shattered windows.

In response to the tragedy, Hun Manet ordered the Minister of National Defense and the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to promptly arrange funerals for the fallen soldiers.
