UN Chief Says Electoral Issues Should be Resolved as Per Law in Pakistan

NEW YORK: United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres has urged political leaders in Pakistan to maintain a calm atmosphere in the country, adding electoral issues should be addressed as per law of the country.

His spokesperson said, “The secretary general asks the political leaders and authorities to maintain a calm atmosphere and to reject and refrain from all shapes of violence and avoid any actions that could increase tensions.”

According to the UN Chief’s spokesperson that Antonio Guterres made the statement after the general elections in the country.

In a media briefing, the UN Secretary General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Guterres “calls for the addressing of all issues and matters through the established legal frameworks and the rule of law to be completely respected in the interest of the people of Pakistan.

Earlier on Sunday, the Election Commission of Pakistan announced the complete and final results of the South Asian country’s General Election 2024 held on February 8. Political parties are holding talks to form a new government in the country.  An independent watchdog monitoring Pakistan election has lauded voters’ electoral spirit the recently held elections in the South Asian country. All political parties actively took part in the country’s elections.
