UN ‘Deeply Disturbed’ by Israeli Strikes on Lebanon Rescue Workers

BEIRUT: The United Nations on Thursday said it was “deeply disturbed” by Israeli attacks on healthcare facilities, a day after several Israeli strikes killed 10 emergency rescue workers in southern Lebanon.

Imran Riza, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator for Lebanon, described the events of the past 36 hours as tragic, highlighting the significant loss of life and injuries in the southern region.

According to reports, several Israeli strikes targeted healthcare facilities and emergency response centers, resulting in civilian casualties. The UN official emphasized the severity of attacks on health care, stressing that such actions violate international humanitarian law and are unacceptable.

Lebanese groups reported multiple strikes on Wednesday, causing civilian casualties. Hezbollah and its ally, the Amal movement, confirmed losses among their ranks, including fighters and rescuers.

In response to the strikes, Hezbollah launched rockets into northern Israel. The escalation of violence has raised concerns of further conflict escalation in the region.

The ongoing clashes between Lebanon and Israel have several people and displaced tens of thousands of people, and underscoring the humanitarian impact of the conflict on both sides of the border.
