JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed deep regret over the Security Council’s failure to fulfill its responsibility in granting full United Nations membership to the State of Palestine.

This failure comes at a critical time when the Palestinian people are enduring severe aggression, oppression, and genocide.

The United States’ veto undermines the principles of the United Nations Charter, which allows for the membership of all states that accept its obligations. By obstructing Palestinian access to their legitimate rights, the United States is perpetuating a historic injustice that has plagued the Palestinian people for 75 years.

The OIC has reaffirmed the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to attain their political and legal status within the United Nations, similar to other nations worldwide. This right, long overdue, aligns with the political, legal, historical, and natural entitlements of the Palestinian people to their land, as upheld by pertinent United Nations resolutions.

Concurrently, the OIC underscores that recognizing the State of Palestine is instrumental in fostering peace, stability, and the realization of a two-state solution.

Furthermore, the OIC appreciated the support of those states that backed the draft resolution advocating Palestine’s UN membership. Such support is viewed as a commendable stand for truth, justice, freedom, and peace, while simultaneously rejecting Israeli colonial policies.

Moreover, the OIC urges states that either rejected or abstained from voting on the resolution to reconsider and rectify their positions in accordance with international law, the United Nations Charter, and relevant resolutions.
