WASHINGTON: The United States has urged the Afghan Taliban to act against terrorist safe havens in Afghanistan.

The US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that Afghanistan must ensure it does not provide sanctuary to terrorist groups such as al-Qaida, ISIS-K, TTP, or any other organization.

Miller reaffirmed the US commitment to preventing Afghanistan from becoming a base for terrorism again and urged the Taliban to fulfill their counterterrorism obligations promised to the international community.

In response to a query about ISIS, Miller said that since the President assumed office three years ago, the US has had a laser-like focus on combating terrorism. “We have successfully disrupted threats worldwide and undermined ISIS by acting both independently and in concert with our allies,” he said highlighting the President’s efforts to combat terrorism globally, including targeting ISIS leaders like Haji Abdullah and al-Qaida’s Ayman al-Zawahiri through military actions.

The US remains focused on holding ISIS accountable and preventing terrorist attacks on the US and Western nations.
