ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Engineer Lieutenant General Sajjad Ghani (Retired), visited the Dasu Hydropower Project on Wednesday to express solidarity with Chinese engineers and workers following a terrorist attack near Besham in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The attack tragically claimed the lives of five Chinese nationals and a local individual who were en route to the Dasu project site from Islamabad.

Accompanied by China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, Chairman Ghani spent time with the Chinese workforce at the project site, offering condolences on behalf of WAPDA for the loss of lives. At the Construction Camp of China Gezhouba Group Company (CGGC), the contractor for the Dasu Hydropower Project, Chairman Ghani strongly condemned the terrorist incident and assured that law enforcement agencies were vigorously investigating the matter to bring the perpetrators to justice. He also pledged close coordination with relevant authorities to enhance security measures and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Chairman Ghani commended the significant contribution of Chinese firms, including CGGC, in implementing vital water and hydropower projects essential for Pakistan’s development. These projects, including Dasu, are pivotal in providing crucial water resources and low-cost energy to support economic stability and social progress in the country. He noted that attacks on the Pak-China friendship would not deter the mutual cooperation aimed at advancing Pakistan’s stability and prosperity.

The visit underscores WAPDA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all personnel involved in project implementation, reaffirming the resilience of the partnership between Pakistan and China in advancing shared development goals.
