LONDON: Meta-owned WhatsApp is set to introduce a significant update to its desktop application, WABetaInfo reported.

The popular instant messaging platform is currently in the process of rolling out the new update, which is being distributed through the Google Play Beta Program, thereby elevating the version to 2.24.8.8.

This forthcoming update is expected to include a feature aimed at enhancing the user experience by introducing notifications to announce the availability of new desktop applications. While the update is currently in the testing phase, it is expected to be accessible to all users in the near future.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp appears to be dedicated to improving the functionality of its platform, particularly on linked devices. The Meta-owned platform is exploring the implementation of a banner feature within the linked devices interface. This banner will serve to inform users about the launch of new desktop applications and their capability to facilitate group calls.

The introduction of this notification feature is expected to be particularly beneficial for persons who frequently use WhatsApp on their desktops. By promptly notifying users about the availability of dedicated desktop applications tailored to their operating systems, WhatsApp aims to streamline the user experience and enhance accessibility across various devices.

“This notification is particularly useful for people who frequently use WhatsApp on their desktops, as it informs them about the convenience of having a dedicated desktop app for their operating system,” stated WABetaInfo.
