BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday said that efforts to admit a Palestinian state into the United Nations were a move to rectify a prolonged injustice, state media Xinhua reported.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Papua New Guinea counterpart during a visit to the country, Wang Yi underscored the significance of recognizing Palestinian state within the international community.

The United States’ recent move to block the UN from granting full membership to Palestine by casting a veto in the UN Security Council has drawn criticism and raised concerns about the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Wang Yi’s remarks come amidst heightened tensions in the region and underscore China’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause. China has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, based on the principles of justice, equality, and mutual respect.

“A prompt admission of Palestine into the United Nations is a move to rectify a prolonged historical injustice,” Xinhua quoted Wang Yi as stating, reaffirming China’s commitment to addressing the grievances of the Palestinian people.
