Death Anniversary of Renowned Urdu Writer Imtiaz Ali Taj Being Observed Today

LAHORE: The 54th death anniversary of renowned Urdu writer Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj is being observed today (Friday).

The legendary playwright was born in Lahore on 13th October, 1900.

He was a host of the daily feature ‘Pakistan Hamara Hai’ on Radio Pakistan and conducted popular radio programs for many years.

He also wrote novels, short stories, radio plays and stories for films.

Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj is known for his 1922 play Anarkali, which was staged hundreds of times and was adapted for feature films including the Bollywood film Mughal-e-Azam.

His play “Chacha Chakan” was a hilarious comedy for children with full of satire and humour. “Chacha Chakan” is considered to be one of the funniest characters in Urdu drama.

Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj was awarded Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 1965.

The iconic writer was assassinated during by unknown killers on April 19, 1970 in Lahore. He was 69.
