OSLO: Denmark has announced plans to shut down its embassy in Iraq, with operations set to cease on May 31, the Danish foreign ministry stated in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The decision to close the diplomatic mission in Baghdad comes as a consequence of the Danish military’s withdrawal from Iraq. The embassy, established in 2020, was initially established to support Denmark’s command over and participation in the NATO Mission Iraq (NMI).

With the majority of Denmark’s military contribution now withdrawn from Iraq, the need for a permanent diplomatic presence has diminished.
