MANCHESTER, England: Lauren Bell, a prominent England bowler, didn’t have any female cricket role models growing up. However, she finds great joy in meeting young female fans who express their admiration for her and plan to imitate her hairstyle during matches.

Reflecting on her journey, Bell acknowledges the lack of female representation in cricket during her childhood but sees positive changes happening now. She believes in the power of inspiring young girls to pursue cricket and is excited about the partnership between Metro Bank and the ECB to launch the Metro Bank Girls in Cricket Fund.

This initiative aims to triple the number of girls’ teams at clubs by 2026. Bell emphasizes the importance of female coaches in encouraging girls to participate in cricket, highlighting the need for a more inclusive environment in the sport. She shares her own experience of growing up playing cricket with boys but encourages girls to join girls’ teams for a more comfortable experience.

As part of her efforts to promote the girls’ game, Bell encourages interested individuals to reach out to nearby clubs and emphasizes the sense of community and support found within them.
