Fact Check: Biden Did not Ink Order to Cancel Social Security

WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden did not ink an executive order to terminate Social Security assistances and the Supplemental Security Income program (SSI). However, several social media posts claimed that Biden signed an executive order in this regard. The social media posts feature old video where the US President talks regarding the risk of not increasing the debt ceiling.

A video of Biden speaking has been shared in social media posts with the text, “Biden inks an executive order to cancel Social Security, SSI, bars side jobs. This bill will be implemented in June 12 2024.”

Fact Check

The original footage was uploaded by the White House on YouTube in 2021. The video is being shared on different social media platforms can be seen in the White House video. There is no mention of President Biden inking an executive order that would cancel Social Security benefits in the official White House record, or in the speech itself.

According to Reuters, no such document can be seen among the orders, released by the White House.
