LAHORE:  A video, viewed more than 200,000 times, is being shared alongside claims that a personnel of Punjab police can be seen beating women collecting food parcels distributed by the government of Punjab during Ramadan.

However, some section of media reported that the claim is false. The footage is old and is not linked to the current distribution of foods to the poor during Ramadan in Punjab.

Fact Check

A social media user claimed that in the era of the chief minister Punjab, people will get slaps rather than flour bags. The social media post has been reposted 2,400 and liked more than 3,700 times, while the clip has been viewed more than 84,000 times, to date.

However, the footage was recorded in 2019, and not in 2024. This fact was rectified by several police personnel in Punjab. The Punjab police spokesman said that the footage was recorded on June 22, 2019, in front of a local court in Multan. It added that the cop seen in the footage, was later issued a show cause notice by the department.
