Fact-check: How much will the Lawmakers Get Paid?

ISLAMABAD:  A text is circulating on social media especially Facebook which claims that the monthly pay of each newly-elected member of the National Assembly will be about 188,000 rupees, prompting many on social media users to question whether the social media was true or not?

The social media post described about monthly salary and allowances of each lawmaker following taking oath.

A Member of the National Assembly receives 150,000 rupees basic salary, additional allowances of 38,000 rupees, which includes an office allowance and allowance for telephone of Rs8,000, an ad-hoc relief of 15,000 rupees and an allowance of 5,000 rupees.

Each member of the National Assembly is eligible to receive around 188,000 rupees per month, which includes a basic salary and allowances, national assembly confirms to media.

An official said that an updated version of the Members of Parliament (Salaries and Allowances) Act 1974 is publicly available on the official website of the national assembly. It said that the amendment was made in the Act in July 2021. Similarly, the MNA also receive additional allowances such as for medical and traveling. Therefore, the claim is true.
