Five Dead as Roof Collapses Due to Heavy Rain in Balochistan

DUKI: Five mine workers tragically lost their lives when a room’s roof collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the Duki district of Balochistan province, local media reported on Friday.

Details indicate that the workers were inside the room when the roof gave way amid the torrential rain, resulting in all five workers being buried under the debris. Police officials confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been transported to a nearby hospital for further procedures.

Prior to this incident, a new westerly weather system brought rainfall and dust storms to various cities and towns across the country. The recent westerly wave entered Balochistan, triggering rainfall in Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Naushehro Feroz, Shikarpur, and Sanghar districts of Sindh.

In addition to rainfall, dust storms affected Chagai, Dalbandin, and Kharan, while rainfall was observed in the Chaman, Dera Bugti, Mastung, and Jhal Magsi districts of Balochistan. Isolated rainfall was also reported in Khushab, Chiniot, Shorkot in Punjab, and Malakand in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The meteorological department had earlier predicted rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northern Balochistan. Meanwhile, dust storms and strong winds affected southern parts of the country.
