SYDNEY: Former Australia cricket captain Meg Lanning has revealed in a recent interview that her premature retirement from international cricket at 31 was fueled by an unhealthy fixation on food and exercise.

Despite her stellar career leading Australia’s women’s team to numerous victories, including four Twenty20 World Cups and a 50-over World Cup, Lanning struggled behind the scenes.

To cope with the pressure, she turned to excessive running, covering up to 90 kilometers (56 miles) per week, while neglecting proper nutrition.

This led to significant weight loss, sleep disturbances, mood swings, and withdrawal from loved ones.

Despite concerns raised by others, Lanning initially denied her unhealthy behavior, eventually seeking help when it began to impact her life.

While she refrained from labeling it as an eating disorder, she acknowledged the need for intervention.

Meg Lanning Speaks Openly

Now retired from international duties, Lanning has found solace in speaking openly about her struggles and is focused on maintaining a healthy balance in her life.
