LONDON: Nelly Korda trails leader Rose Zhang by six shots at the Cognizant Founders Cup, as she pursues her sixth consecutive LPGA Tour victory.

Zhang, the 25-year-old American, leads the field after a flawless opening round of 63 in New Jersey, standing at nine under par. Korda, currently the world number one, matched the legendary records of Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez by claiming her fifth consecutive tour title at last month’s Chevron Championship.

In second place, Sweden’s Madelene Sagstrom sits at seven under, while Ireland’s Leona Maguire is among the three players tied at six under. Mel Reid of England follows at five under, with compatriot Georgia Hall and Korda both at three under.

Despite the challenges ahead, Korda remains optimistic, acknowledging the unpredictability of the weather and other factors, but emphasizing the importance of starting strong and staying focused throughout the remainder of the tournament.
