Iranian Consul General Calls on CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif

LAHORE: Iranian Consul General Mehran Mowahed Far called on Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Tuesday.

The promotion of bilateral ties and the possibility of increasing cooperation and trade volume between the two nations came under discussion in the meeting. Both leaders agreed on the promotion of cultural and youth exchanges as well. A decision was taken to take immediate measures in this regard.

The consul general felicitated Maryam Nawaz Sharif on being elected the first female Chief Minister of Punjab. The CM thanked the Iranian diplomat for the good words and nice wishes.

She expressed her desire to increase cooperation between the two nations.

The chief minister that she wanted to take Pak-Iran bilateral ties to a higher level.

She said that as a goodwill gesture, lights will be lit in the Badshahi Mosque on March 20 on the occasion of Nowruz.

Pakistan, Iran Connections

Pakistan and Iran are religiously and culturally connected. The historical relationship between the people of Pakistan and Iran spans over centuries, she added.

Maryam Nawaz said that she wanted to further increase mutual agricultural and trade with Iran.

The Iranian Consul General said that CM Maryam Nawaz’s vision of deepening Pakistan-Iran ties was commendable, adding the future of relations with Pakistan was bright.

He expressed good wishes for the government and the people of Punjab.
