ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will visit Pakistan “very soon”. Meanwhile, local media reported that the Iranian leader will arrive in Pakistan on April 22.

The announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office came after a cabinet meeting. The visit is taking place amidst escalating tensions in the region following Iran’s recent missile and drone strikes on Israel, which triggered concerns about broader instability.

The upcoming visit follows Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel, which saw over 300 missiles and drones launched in retaliation to an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria. The attack resulted in the killing of 17 persons, including the deaths of two senior commanders from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The visit underscores Pakistan’s stance on promoting dialogue and urging all parties in the Middle East to exercise restraint and work towards de-escalation. The visit of President Raisi to Pakistan holds significance against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the region.
