LONDON: A video showing Israeli soldiers documenting the extensive destruction in the besieged Gaza Strip while playing a mocking song in the background has sparked fresh outrage on social media platforms.

The footage, shared widely on Thursday, showcases the widespread devastation in a Gaza neighborhood, including flames, fire, and collapsed buildings, set to background music with haunting lyrics.

Users on social media platforms condemned the Israeli soldiers’ actions as “inhuman” and “cowardly,” while calls for international intervention gained momentum.

Younis Tirawi, an independent journalist covering politics and security in the Palestinian territories, stated that the video, along with similar content, was uploaded by Israeli soldiers seeking attention.

Reports from Israeli publication N12 earlier this month revealed that frontline troops use personal phones to record such videos, which are then shared on their personal social media accounts.

The IDF spokesperson issued a statement condemning the soldiers’ behavior, affirming that it contradicts the values of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). They pledged to take disciplinary action against those involved.

This incident adds to a series of videos circulating online, provoking anger among millions of users. In past instances, Israeli soldiers have been suspended for posting videos mocking Palestinians, including one showing burning houses in Gaza accompanied by racist chants.

In light of legal concerns, a BBC investigation in February suggested that videos depicting Gazan detainees stripped, bound, and blindfolded, filmed and uploaded by Israeli soldiers, may potentially violate international law.
