ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, in partnership with The Nippon Foundation, has donated a collection of 55 books centered on Japan to Gandhara University Peshawar. This meaningful gesture is part of the “Read Japan Project,” aimed at fostering a deeper appreciation of Japan and its rich culture through the medium of books.

In a ceremony held on Tuesday, WADA Mitsuhiro, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, formally presented these books to Roeeda Kabir, the Chairperson of Gandhara University. The carefully curated selection of 55 books, all in English, covers a wide array of topics related to Japan, encompassing politics, economics, security, philosophy, art, and culture, as detailed in an official news release.

The Ambassador conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to both students and educators for receiving this invaluable gift from The Nippon Foundation. He expressed his optimism that these books would provide students with a wealth of fascinating insights into Japan.

He further expressed his desire that students and faculty alike would continue to explore novel avenues for deepening their understanding of Japanese culture. In this endeavor, he pledged Japan’s support, particularly considering the significant milestone of 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries celebrated last year, and the upcoming celebration of 70 years of Japanese ODA support for Pakistan next year.

The Ambassador emphasized that young people are the future, and he aspired to witness greater interaction and collaboration between the future generations of Japan and Pakistan, working together to improve both nations.

The “Read Japan Project” was initiated by The Nippon Foundation in 2008, with the noble goal of promoting awareness and understanding of Japan worldwide by donating English-language books related to Japan to universities and libraries.
