LONDON: A recently found, 12-string acoustic guitar that belonged to the Beatles lead singer, John Lennon will go up for the auction in May.

The lost guitar was recently found in the attic of a home in Britain.

According to the auctioneers, the guitar could fetch around $600,000 to $800,000. Late Lennon played the guitar in the Beatles’ 1965 album “Help!”.

The founders of US-based Julien’s Auctions said they flew to Britain to verify the originality of the guitar and found the original case of the musical instrument in the trash.

Martin Nolan, executive director and co-founder of Julien’s Auctions, told the media the owners of the house knew there was a guitar, but thought it had been lost.

The guitar is believed to have ended up in the hands of the owners of the house through British musician Gordon Waller.

Martin Nolan said Gordon received the guitar from John Lennon as a gift, which Gordon gave to his road manager.

The guitar of the legendary singer will be auctioned on May 29 at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York and on the auctioneer’s website.

Earlier this year, a stolen Hofner bass guitar belonging to Paul McCartney of the Beatles was found and returned to him after 51 years.

Musical instruments belonging to members of the iconic rock band, Beatles have fetched a high price at previous auctions.
