Kazakh Foreign Minister Discusses Strengthening Partnership with US Secretary of State

ASTANA, Kazakhstan:  Kazakh Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu recently met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington, where they discussed the progressive development of the expanded Kazakhstan-US strategic partnership across various sectors, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

During the meeting, Minister Nurtleu highlighted the balanced foreign policy of Kazakhstan and emphasized the pragmatic implementation of initiatives aimed at leveraging the country’s transport, logistics, infrastructure, trade, and investment potential. He expressed Kazakhstan’s interest in attracting advanced American technologies and fostering mutually beneficial trade relations, leading to a notable 33 percent increase in trade between the two countries over the past year, reaching $4 billion.

Both Minister Nurtleu and Secretary Blinken acknowledged the cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States in critical areas such as energy security, critical minerals, climate change, and peacekeeping efforts.

Secretary Blinken commended President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s commitment to fundamental reforms and reiterated Washington’s readiness to provide full assistance in their implementation, recognizing Kazakhstan’s leadership on global issues.

The discussion also touched upon opportunities to enhance the “C5+1” dialogue, building on the agreements reached during the inaugural Summit held in New York in September 2023.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing dialogue and cooperation on pertinent bilateral agenda items, underscoring the importance of strengthening the partnership between Kazakhstan and the United States for mutual benefit and regional stability.
