Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Open Golf Championship 2024 Kicks Off

PESHAWAR: The 28th edition of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Open Golf Championship-2024, began here at the 6666-yard PAF Golf Course Peshawar on Thursday.

Being the oldest in the country, the championship is considered to be the top and national ranking golfing event in Pakistan, prominent golfers from all over the country are participating in different categories comprising Professional, Senior Professionals, Junior Professionals, (Amateurs (Handicap 09 & below), Senior Amateurs (Handicap 14 & below), Subsidiary (HCP-10-18), Ladies Amateurs (Handicap 36 & below), Veterans & Boys Cate “A” & “B”.

Among different categories, 100 golfers are participating in the Pros category, 100 in Amateurs, 50 in Senior Amateurs, and 15 Ladies golfers will compete in the contest.

Golfers with Leading Score

Earlier, on the first day, Muhammad Akram of Gymkhana was leading the contest with his gross score of 70 at the front nine and 35, at the back nine. Talking about his game he said, “My long drives work very well and I hit almost all the regulations,”.

Nadeem Abbas also played well with 72, par, with 35, one under at the front nine and 37, one over par, at the back nine. Mehmood Hussain Kiani had a score of 73, one over par, 36, par at front nine and 37, one over par, at back nine with three birdies. Abdul Jabbar (73), Naseer Khan (74), and Rana Iftikhar (74) were the other top scorers on the opening day round over 18 holes on the first day.

In the Junior Professionals events, Muhammad Sahil was leading the board with his gross score of 72, par, 37 one over par at the front nine holes and 35, one under at the back nine by hitting a single bogey at hole no. 1, hole no. 5 and 10 with a birdie at hole no. 13 par 4 and 16, par three. Abid Iqbal was following him with his gross score of 75, three over par, 37, one over par at front nine and 38, two over par, back nine holes. Ashass Amjad (76), Umar Shahzad (76) and Jawad Ahmad (77) were the other top scorers over 18 holes on the first day.
