PARIS: King Charles III of Britain is set to embark on a state visit to France in September, as reported by a French newspaper. This visit was rescheduled after being cancelled due to violent protests in France in March earlier this year.

The rescheduled state visit, eagerly awaited to bolster diplomatic ties, is now slated to occur from September 20 to 22. King Charles III, accompanied by Queen Consort Camilla, is scheduled to visit Paris and Bordeaux in the southwest of France, adhering to the original itinerary.

Sources revealed that preparations for the visit are already underway, with King Charles’s security team having visited Bordeaux in July to ensure all arrangements are in place.

However, the late September dates present a busy period for France, as it coincides with the anticipated visit of Pope Francis and the Rugby World Cup hosted by the country.

There is even speculation that Prince William might join his father on the journey, possibly seizing the opportunity to witness the Wales rugby match against Fiji, adding an additional layer of excitement to the visit.

When contacted, President Emmanuel Macron’s office refrained from providing any comments on the report.

Violent Protests Led King Charles III’s Trip to Cancellation

The cancellation of the initial trip was a result of the uproar over pension reform legislation, igniting violent protests and widespread strikes across the nation. President Macron exercised executive power to push the plan through parliament, further fueled the protest.

As this state visit holds immense significance, both in terms of diplomatic relations and public sentiment, Macron’s decision to cancel the earlier trip emphasizes the priority of upholding a welcoming environment for the esteemed guest.

Evidently, the French President’s office expressed the desire to ensure that King Charles III” is received in a manner that resonates with the nations’ friendly relations.

The forthcoming state visit promises to solidify diplomatic bonds and provide a platform for exchanging cultural, political, and strategic insights between these historic allies.
