BEIRUT: Caretaker prime minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, on Monday strongly rejected the violation of its airspace by Israel.

He said Lebanon cannot remain silent against the Israeli aggressions, warning that further violations could not be tolerated.

This was the first official statement from Lebanon after the Iranian attack against Israel. It came as the caretaker prime minister was addressing a broad ministerial meeting on Monday.

He called on the global community to fulfill its responsibility against these attacks. He said that Lebanon always submits complaints before the (UN) Security Council over this issue.

Mikati was of the view that Israel is dragging the region into war, and the international community must take note of this and play a role in ending this war.

Several Iranian drones flew over Lebanon’s airspace on the night of the attacks against Israel.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Works announced the closure of the country’s airspace to all incoming, outgoing, and transit flights over Lebanon, on the night of the attack.

Mikati urges the world to put pressure on Israel

Mikati said that Lebanon has friends in the world who defend it and make every effort to put pressure on Israel to stop its aggression.

The ministerial meeting recommended forming a committee that would develop a methodology for surveying the damage and identifying needs in the southern border region that is facing Israeli hostilities.

The meeting asked the concerned ministries to verify the shortcomings of foodstuffs, supplies, and fuel, in the region.

Director general of the Ministry of Economy and Trade, Mohammed Abu Haidar, said food products will be available in Lebanon for the next three months.
