Massive Traffic Accident Kills One in China

ISLAMABAD: A highway pile-up involving hundreds of vehicles in central China killed one person, state broadcaster CCTV reported Wednesday, with images of the traffic accident showing scenes of chaos.

Aerial images showed hundreds of passenger vans, cars, and lorries, many of which had crashed into one another, piled up on the highway in dense fog. 

Other viral videos shared online showed the mangled remains of several cars that had smashed into others.

Massive accident involving 200 vehicles

According to state media, the accident occurred due to low visibility in foggy conditions near Zhengzhou city, Henan province. It involved at least two hundred vehicles. 

CCTV quoted Zhengzhou authorities as saying that on Wednesday morning, a sudden fog build-up occurred at the Zhengxin Yellow River Bridge in Zhengzhou, causing a massive traffic accident involving the collision of multiple cars. One person lost his life as a result.

Police in Zhengzhou said on their official social media account that traffic on the flyover has resumed on Wednesday.

The CCTV report said that an emergency operation was carried out soon after the accident occurred.
