ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has criticized the PTI for sending an online petition to the European Union (EU) for depriving Pakistan of GSP+ status and termed the move as an attack on the nation’s economy.

Addressing a news conference, he said personal goals were more significant for the PTI than the national interest and the party had asked for revoking the GPS+ status by mistakenly claiming that the basic facilities were not being given to the imprisoned party leader.

Attaullah Tarar said that it is a conspiracy against the country by spreading false information, and said that the assaults on Pakistan’s economy were still being carried out, as the PTI continued targeting the same like it had done in the past.

The minister said that the ban on meetings and the visitors to see the prisoners was not specific to the Adiala prison, Rawalpindi. He added security measures are being taken in other jails as well to protect these facilities. The Minister said that there was a threat of terrorist attacks on some jails and the provincial government is responsible for ensuring the safety of all the jails.

He said that the same elements who were involved in the May 9 violence had called for removing Pakistan from the list of those countries who enjoyed the GSP+ status.
