New Spell of Rains Enters Pakistan from Wednesday

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicated a forthcoming spell of rainfall across various regions of the country, predominantly in the upper areas, commencing from Wednesday through April 29th.

Anticipated to commence on the night of April 24th, a westerly wave is expected to ingress the western regions of the country, progressively enveloping most upper areas by April 26th. As a consequence of this weather system, numerous parts of the country are poised to experience varying intensities of rainfall and thunderstorms, the PMD’s said. Lahore is likely to encounter moderate to heavy rainfall from the 26th to the 29th of April, the PMD said.

The forecast indicates rain, wind, and thunderstorm activities, including a few moderate to heavy falls, in several regions encompassing Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and others from the 26th to the 29th of April (morning).

Similarly, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and other areas are expected to experience intermittent rain, wind, and thunderstorm conditions from the 26th to the 28th of April. Isolated hailstorms are also anticipated during this period.

Sukkur, Jacobabad, and other regions are expected to witness dust-thunderstorms and light rain on the 25th and 26th of April.

Furthermore, significant weather events such as rain-windstorms, thunderstorms, and snowfall over high mountains are predicted for various areas, including Chitral, Swat, Abbottabad, and others, from the 25th (evening/night) to the 29th of April, with intermittent gaps.

There is a heightened risk of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan from the 27th to the 29th of April.

Additionally, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir regions are expected to experience rain, wind, and thunderstorm activities with snowfall over high mountains from the 26th to the 29th of April.

Meanwhile, Noushki, Pishin, and other areas are predicted to witness rain-wind coupled with thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls, from the night of the 24th to the morning of the 27th of April.

The PMD has issued warnings regarding flash floods in local nullahs and streams of Balochistan due to moderate to heavy rainfalls from April 27th to 28th. Vulnerable areas include Noushki, Pishin, Harnai, and others, along with Dir, Swat, Chitral, and Kashmir.
