Pakistan Finance Minister Chairs Meeting on FBR Digitalization

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, led the Steering Committee meeting on the Digitalization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The meeting was attended by Chairman FBR, CEO Karandaaz Waqas ul Hasan, and representatives from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, among others.

During the meeting, the committee assessed the progress made in digitalizing FBR’s operations and discussed ways to further enhance efficiency and transparency in tax administration nationwide.

Minister Aurangzeb reiterated the government’s commitment to collaborating with the private sector and relevant stakeholders to modernize Pakistan’s taxation framework.

He emphasized that digitalizing FBR is vital not only for improving tax collection and administration but also for fostering sustained economic growth.

The committee approved a proposal from McKinsey and Company, a renowned global consulting firm, for the digitalization project. The procurement process, led by Director DFS Karandaaz Sharjeel Murtaza, involved thorough technical evaluation by a committee comprising senior FBR officials and technical experts from Karandaaz Pakistan. Following comprehensive assessment, McKinsey and Company emerged as the top bidder, leading to the approval for contracting and onboarding them to commence the project.

Minister Aurangzeb commended the Procurement Committee for selecting high-quality consulting services for this crucial national project. He emphasized the need for a results-driven approach, leveraging existing knowledge on digitalization, and prioritizing early successes.

The meeting concluded with an agreement on the next steps for initiating the digitalization process of FBR’s operations through collaboration between FBR and the private sector, aiming to establish a digitally empowered tax ecosystem in Pakistan.
