ISLAMABAD: In response to malicious social media campaigns targeting the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and government officials, the caretaker government has initiated the formation of a new Joint Investigation Team (JIT) for comprehensive inquiries.

The decision comes amidst mounting concerns regarding the proliferation of misinformation and efforts to manipulate public opinion through deceptive means. The caretaker government is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring equitable and transparent elections.

A spokesperson for the caretaker government emphasized, “We cannot tolerate the subversion of democracy by malicious actors employing deceitful tactics.”

The JIT’s mandate encompasses investigating various aspects of these nefarious activities, including the dissemination of false information on social media platforms, the production of counterfeit ballot papers, and propaganda designed to sway public opinion.

Moreover, there have been reports of attempts to influence government officials through covert campaigns. The caretaker government has underscored its zero-tolerance stance on such actions, promising swift and decisive repercussions for those implicated.

The JIT will collaborate with IT specialists to gather evidence and determine the extent of the misconduct. It will meticulously document cases and propose appropriate measures against the individuals responsible, ensuring accountability and upholding the principles of justice.
