ISLAMABAD: The Inland Revenue Enforcement Network (IREN) has effectively executed a nationwide crackdown on non-duty paid and counterfeit cigarettes.
During the two days operation from February 14th to 15th, more than 679,000 packs (equivalent to 15,580,000 sticks) of non-duty paid and counterfeit cigarettes from various local and foreign brands including Business Royal, H&P, Platinum, Milano, and Olympic were confiscated, a press release issued on Friday said.
The confiscated goods, with an estimated value exceeding Rs 140 million, have prompted the initiation of criminal proceedings against the manufacturers and transporters under the directive of Mir Badshah Khan Wazir, Member (IR-Operations).
