Pakistan’s Food Exports Grew By 48.17% In Nine Months

ISLAMABAD: Exports of food groups from Pakistan during the first nine months of the current financial year (2023-24) increased by 48.17 percent as compared to the exports of the corresponding period of last year.

According to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), food commodities worth $5.651 billion were exported from July to March 2023-24, marking a notable increase from $3.814 billion in the same period the previous year.

Rice exports witnessed a substantial rise of 83.37 percent, with over 4.550 million tons valued at $2.930 billion exported compared to 2.939 million tons worth $1.598 billion in the same period last year. During this timeframe, fruit exports grew by 17.34 percent and vegetable exports by 42.79 percent. The data disclosed that 782,155 metric tons of fruits valued at $265.655 million and 906,836 metric tons of vegetables valued at $94.896 million were exported.

Additionally, tobacco exports increased by 19.99 percent and spice exports by 19.90 percent. A total of 16,968 metric tons of tobacco valued at $61.576 million and 29,011 metric tons of spices worth $87.297 million were exported.

Oil seed and nuts exports surged by 131.60 percent, while sugar exports experienced a decline of 74.63 percent compared to the same period last year.

Meat and meat products exports earned the country $386.928 million from the export of approximately 93,508 metric tons, reflecting a growth of 28.24 percent.

Pakistan’s YoY Food Exports

Year-on-year, food group exports escalated by 16.35 percent, rising from $588.759 million in March 2023 to $685.025 million in March 2024.

However, textile exports witnessed a month-on-month decline of 2.36 percent, dropping from $701.565 million in February 2024.
