ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Industries and Production Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain on Saturday strongly condemned the unilateral price hike of Sarsabz Urea fertilizer by Fatima Fertilizer Limited.

Expressing deep concern over the increase of Rs. 561 per urea bag, he urged the fertilizer company to withdraw this unilateral increase, he said in a statement.

The minister emphasized the need for the fertilizer company to provide solid justification for sudden price hikes of Sarsabz Urea.

He pointed out that there has been no increase in gas prices for the fertilizer industry. Therefore, an increase in the price of urea fertilizer without a corresponding increase in gas prices is unacceptable and unjustified.

Rana Tanveer Hussain warned that if the company fails to provide solid justification, the relevant ministry would determine prices according to the laws.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to protecting farmers’ interests and ensuring the stability of fertilizer prices, he mentioned collaborative efforts with provinces to eliminate fertilizer hoarding. Additionally, mechanisms are being developed to monitor the real-time availability of fertilizer stocks.

The minister stressed the importance of fertilizer companies providing facilities to enhance farmers’ productivity across the country.
