The Russian Election Commission chief Ella Pamfilova announced that “almost 76 million people” voted for Putin, marking a record figure.
In his victory speech, Putin vowed to resist external pressure and declared unity in the face of Western opposition. He has maintained a strongman image, framing his actions as necessary to preserve Russian identity.
Putin dismissed opposition protests as ineffective and vowed consequences for those who spoiled their ballots. The election also extended to Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine, where Ukrainian attacks on Russian border areas led to casualties.
