PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Food, Zahir Shah Toru, has announced that the provincial government will be purchasing local wheat this year to support and facilitate local growers. According to a statement issued on Saturday, the minister further stated that the provincial cabinet has approved the purchase of six hundred thousand metric tons of wheat for the current year, with the price fixed at Rs. 3900 for 40 kilograms, equivalent to the rates set by the federal, Punjab, and Baluchistan governments.

KP Govt to Digitise Food Department

The minister highlighted that this decision aims to incentivize local growers and protect their interests in the near future. Additionally, the KP government is moving towards digitizing the Food Department to ensure transparency in its operations. The government plans to monitor the quality of wheat stored in warehouses to deter the distribution of substandard wheat. To oversee these efforts, a five-member committee has been established to monitor the purchase, delivery, and quality of wheat.

Moreover, the provincial minister appealed both the media and the public to cooperate with the government by reporting corrupt practices. He assured that the government would take exemplary action against any accused individuals.
