ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the need to transform country’s sports and tourism scenarios to project its true image internationally.

Ahsan Iqbal, who also serves as Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, was recently assigned the additional charge of the IPC ministry.

Speaking to media after chairing his first meeting as IPC minister at the Pakistan Sports Board, the minister expressed his honor at being entrusted with this responsibility by the Prime Minister.

He emphasized the importance of the IPC ministry in the field of sports, noting that the 18th Amendment did not mean that the federation should neglect coordination.

Underlining the importance of national coordination for the development of Pakistan’s potential in tourism and sports, he stated that the establishment of a National Tourism Council was necessary.

Similarly, he stressed the need for concerted efforts to revive the country’s sports reputation.

Pakistan’s Performance in Asian Games

Regarding Pakistan’s performance in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, last year, where it claimed only 3 medals, Iqbal remarked that Pakistan’s name is not as prominent in the Asian Games as it used to be in the past, indicating a need for serious measures for sports development.

He highlighted the significant investments made by other nations for hosting prestigious sporting events to gain recognition and promote themselves.
