Peshawar Zalmi, UNHCR Announce Partnership Ahead of PSL 9

ISLAMABAD: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced a partnership with one of the leading franchises, Peshawar Zalmi, to promote the cause of refugees through cricket in Pakistan. The announcement came at a time when the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 is all set to commence on February 17th, with the opening contest between Lahore Qalandar and Islamabad United.

According to details, the partnership would facilitate joint efforts between UNHCR and Peshawar Zalmi to highlight the cause of refugees during one of the most popular cricketing contests. Accordingly, the jerseys of Peshawar Zalmi would be showcased with the emblem of UNHCR to express a vivid commitment to the cause.

Meanwhile, the Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of Peshawar Zalmi, Mian Abbas, accompanied by cricketer Mohammad Haris here in Islamabad, presented the official jersey of Peshawar Zalmi to UNHCR’s Representative in Pakistan, Philippa Candler.

Mian Abbas stated that conflicts and war usually forced millions of people to become refugees globally, creating an alarming situation. He further said that UNHCR and Peshawar Zalmi would jointly partner to initiate an awareness campaign during the PSL 9.

“Teaming up a leading humanitarian organization such as UNHCR would allow us to use our platform to highlight global challenges and help motivate and mobilize the masses for a greater humanitarian impact,” Abbas said while quoting Javed Afridi, owner of Peshawar Zalmi.

Meanwhile, UNHCR’s Representative Philippa Candler appreciated the efforts and commitment of Peshawar Zalmi to come forward for the cause of refugees, adding that featuring the logo of UNHCR and the jersey of Peshawar Zalmi demonstrates dedication to the franchise in raising awareness to support those who are in need.

She further said that Sports played a crucial role among different cultures to foster a greater understanding of humanitarian issues adding that she wish a good luck to the Zalmis during the PSL upcoming event.

It is worth noting here that Pakistan remained one of the leading and generous refugee hosts for the last four decades.
