WEST INDIES: Daren Sammy, the head coach of the West Indies cricket team, emphasized the growing dominance of batters in T20 cricket, highlighting the potential impact of bowlers possessing unique skills or unconventional actions in the upcoming World Cup.

He noted the trend of high-scoring matches in tournaments like the Indian Premier League (IPL) and stressed the need for bowlers with an “X-factor” to counter the batting onslaught. Sammy pointed out that while power-hitters would be crucial for teams, bowlers with raw pace or mystery spin could be equally vital in defending or restricting opponents.

Reflecting on West Indies’ prospects, he compared the current batting lineup to the ones that secured World Cup victories during his captaincy tenure but emphasized the importance of all-rounders in bolstering the bowling attack.

Sammy mentioned efforts to persuade veteran spinner Sunil Narine out of retirement but remained uncertain about his availability. With the tournament approaching, West Indies aims to assemble a balanced squad capable of competing effectively in the event they will co-host with the United States in June.
