LONDON: Scottish leader Humza Yousaf has called for an urgent cease-fire in Gaza, expressing deep regret for the innocent lives lost in brutal Israeli airstrikes, Western media reported on Tuesday.

In a statement via social media, he said, “I am sorry to those innocent women, children and men in Jabalia Refugee Camp that the international community could not protect you. This blatant disregard for human life must be denounced unequivocally. Do not let any more children die. We need an urgent cease-fire, nothing less,”.

Local officials in Gaza said that a series of Israeli barbaric airstrikes on the refugee camp killed hundreds of people. Most of the victims were children and women, it said, saying Israeli warplanes destroyed the entire residential area.

According to local media, the Israeli military has expanded its barbaric attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless strikes since Oct. 7. Health officials in Gaza said that more than 8,525 mostly children and women have been martyred in Israeli attacks in Gaza. More than 1,538 Israelis have also been killed in the conflict.
