MULTAN: To curb the sale of kites and prevent kite-related accidents, the New Multan police station apprehended six kite sellers and confiscated more than 4000 kites from their possession.

The arrested individuals, identified as Abdul Shakoor, Anil, Rana Nazik, Sabir, Ashraf, and Abdul Qayyum, were apprehended during a late-night operation as part of the ongoing crackdown initiated by the police.

Separate cases have been registered against the accused persons to ensure legal action and deterrence against the illegal activity of kite selling.

Highlighting the gravity of kite-related accidents, SP City Division Hassan Raza Khaki emphasized the accountability of the station house officer (SHO) in the event of any such incident occurring within their jurisdiction.

In an effort to promote safety among motorcyclists, particularly the youth, the police urged the use of safety rods and protection shields while riding motorcycles, aiming to mitigate the risks associated with kite flying.

A comprehensive social media campaign has been launched, complemented by the installation of billboards and hoardings, to raise awareness among bikers about the importance of adopting safety precautions to prevent accidents caused by kite strings.

Furthermore, the traffic police have taken proactive measures by distributing pamphlets among motorcyclists, disseminating crucial information about the hazards posed by kite flying using metallic strings.

The concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies underscore a commitment to ensuring public safety and preventing avoidable accidents, urging both sellers and bikers to prioritize safety measures and adhere to regulations to safeguard lives and property.
