MUSCAT: Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Muazzam, the Sultan of Oman, has embarked on a two-day official visit to Iran, where he is scheduled to meet with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

The visit comes in response to an invitation from the Iranian president, aimed at reaffirming the strong bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and Iran, according to the state news agency ONA.

The trip holds significance as Oman has recently taken on a diplomatic role in facilitating the restoration of stalled relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran. The efforts, announced by China on March 10, involved negotiations hosted by Iraq and Jordan.

Oman’s Commitment to Fostering Regional Stability

Sultan Haitham’s visit to Iran underscores Oman’s commitment to fostering regional stability and promoting dialogue between neighboring countries.

Accompanied by a high-level government delegation, including Vice Admiral Abdullah Bin Khamis Raisi, the head of the armed forces, as well as the ministers of finance, commerce, and defense, Sultan Haitham aims to strengthen economic and political cooperation between Oman and Iran.

The visit is expected to pave the way for enhanced trade and economic exchange between Tehran and Muscat, according to Iran’s ambassador to Oman, Ali Najafi Khoshroudi.
