Turkmenistan for Regional Cooperation for TAPI Energy Project Completion

PARIS: Turkmenistan reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) energy project in collaboration with regional partners.

Muhammetmyrat Amanov, CEO of TAPI Pipeline Company Limited, said that Turkmenistan’s have significant progress on the TAPI natural gas pipeline during the Turkmen Energy Investment Forum (TEIF 2024) being held in Paris.

He highlighted that the Turkmenistan section of the pipeline is already complete and ongoing discussions aim to advance the project beyond Turkmenistan in accordance with international standards.

Amanov underscored the project’s focus on environmental sustainability, leveraging natural gas to reduce emissions compared to coal and oil, thus improving regional air quality and addressing indoor pollution. He emphasized Turkmenistan’s adherence to international law in project implementation, highlighting the commitment to upholding obligations and norms.

The CEO of TAPI also discussed the importance of the Herat Offtake Strategy in Afghanistan, which will contribute to environmental protection, public safety, and revenue generation, while boosting confidence among lenders.

FPCCI, ICCI Stress TAPI Completion for Pakistan

President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Atif Ikram Sheikh, stressed the significance of the TAPI project for Pakistan’s energy needs and industrial development. He emphasized Turkmenistan’s pivotal role in addressing Pakistan’s energy requirements and enhancing economic integration with Central Asia.

Similarly, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawri, emphasized the urgency of completing the TAPI project to address Pakistan’s energy challenges. He highlighted the importance of energy and trade agreements with Central Asian countries to meet Pakistan’s needs and promote regional connectivity.

The TAPI project, initiated in 1995, aims to address energy demands in the region and foster economic cooperation among participating countries.
