KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Germany and France on Friday for meetings with leaders Olaf Scholz and Emmanuel Macron, his office announced on Thursday.

The trips to Ukraine’s key European supporters come at a critical time.

With the war approaching the two-year mark, Kyiv is trying to unlock billions of dollars in Western assistance to help its forces on the battlefield, according to AFP.

On February 16, President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Germany and France for meetings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron, Zelensky’s office said in a statement.

Kyiv said that Zelensky will also address the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, where he will hold discussions with US Vice President Kamala Harris.

While there, he will also hold talks with the leaders of Denmark, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands.

Ukraine’s Forces Face Increasingly Difficult Situation

Ukraine’s forces are facing an increasingly difficult situation on the eastern frontlines due to ammunition shortages and fresh Russian attacks.

The long-term future of billions of dollars of Western aid remains in doubt.

A possible 60-billion-dollar package of military assistance has been held up in the United States since 2023 because of wrangling in Congress.

The European Union belatedly approved its 50-billion-euro assistance program earlier this month.
